Haye then bailed on Wladimir’s brother Vitali Klitschko when he was attempting to get a fight with Haye. Instead of taking on Vitali, Haye chose to fight paper champion Nikolay Valuev, who hadn’t fought in over a year at the time he and Haye battled in 2009.

In the press conference in New York today, Wladimir said this as quoted by the nypost.com: “I will not believe this fight until I see David Haye in the corner July 2nd. Thank God, he is going first. Then I’ll see, ok, he’s there, then I’ll come in.” Haye will be entering the ring first on July 2nd. This was something that Wladimir had put in the contract. The reason for this is because Wladimir has two titles rather than Haye’s one belt and has a lot more experience at heavyweight compared to Haye.

Haye fired back with some of the lines he’s been spouting for the past year, saying “You’re boring. I’d rather watch paint dry. The reason why I’m here is people want you to get knocked out so there’s some excitement in the heavyweight division. You and your brother have killed the heavyweight division and I’m here to save it.”

Whether Haye wins the fight or not, he can’t really save the heavyweight division because he plans on getting out of the sport and retiring at the end of the year for some peculiar reason. Haye made a promise to himself when he was a teenager that he’d get out of the sport at 31. Instead of maturing and realizing that 31 isn’t old, Haye has stuck with the promise that he made to himself in his teenage years. However, Haye will stick around a little while longer if he beats Wladimir because the only way Haye can get a mega fight with Vitali is to stick around until 2012, because Vitali already has a fight scheduled for September against Tomasz Adamek and won’t be available to fight Haye before Haye turns 31.
