Koncz says a Pacquiao-Mosley rematch is possible for November

By Chris Williams: If 39-year-old Shane Mosley gives it a good college try against Manny Pacquiao on May 7th, we may be seeing a rematch between the two fighters in November, says Pacquiao’s close advisor Michael Koncz. This is an ugly thought, because unless Mosley beats Pacquiao, which I can’t see happening now with Mosley looking all of 40, I don’t see much of any point in there being a rematch between the two fighters.

I mean if Mosley gives it a good shot and still ends up losing, what’s the point of there being a rematch? I’d rather see Pacquiao step up a level and fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Sergio Martinez. If you Mayweather want he wants in terms of blood testing and his financial purse, then I don’t see why that fight can’t happen.

Here is what Koncz had to say about the Pacquiao-Mosley rematch in an article at examiner.com: “We might be looking at a November rematch if it goes 12 rounds and Mosley fights as strong and as hard as we expect.”

I really hope Koncz was thinking Pacquiao-Mosley rematch only if Mosley wins because it’s silly to see a rematch between these two guys if Pacquiao stomps Mosley or even if it’s somewhat close. If they lower the price a tad, say 95%, then I guess I could stomach seeing Pacquiao beat up on Mosley again. But Pacquiao needs to take on some younger blood that’s not struggling like Mosley and some of Pacquiao’s other recent opponents have been.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Pacquiao vs. Andre Berto, as long as Berto doesn’t get beaten by Victor Ortiz this Saturday or look really bad in winning. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Pacquiao face Marcos Maidana or Kelly Pavlik. Those would be some interesting fights. Give Pacquiao a catchweight handicap of his choice and let them go at it.
