Wladimir says he’s going to use his jab and grab technique to beat Haye

By Dave Lahr: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko says he’s ready to resume training in a couple of weeks and is still in the process of recovering from a bad abdominal muscle tear. Wladimir has a fight coming up against WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in July. Wladimir says he’s going to punish Haye for 12 rounds with his jab and then knock him out in the 12th.

“I will definitely enjoy the fight for 12 rounds and eventually in the 12th I will knock him out,” Wladimir said in an interview at thesun.co.uk.
“I will fight stiff by using my jab, jab, grab, but then my right missile will land on his chin or temple and he get knocked out.”

It’s not surprising that Wladimir will be using his tried and true jab and immediately grab technique because he’s been fighting that way pretty much since he started training with Emanuel Steward in 2004. It’s worked well for him against the limited fighters that Wladimir has been taking on. However, Wladimir is facing David Haye next – if Wladimir doesn’t back out of the fight with an injury excuse. Haye doesn’t allow his opponents to clinch him without making them pay by tagging them with short combinations until they’re forced to let go.

If Wladimir tries any of his hit and grabbing tricks against Haye, Wladimir is going to be picking his teeth up off the canvas and wondering what happened. That’s like handing the fight to Haye and just giving it to him. I would hope that Wladimir’s trainer, Steward, will try and break Wladimir of his bad habit of grabbing his opponents after every punch. He’s going to get knocked out if he fights like that against Haye, believe me.
