Will Haye retire if Wladimir flattens him or will he try and talk Vitali into a fight?

By William Mackay: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) has a crucial fight coming up in the summer against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) in what could be Haye’s last fight of his career. Haye has set a deadline of the end of the year for his retirement, but you would have to think his career will be pretty much finished if Wladimir knocks Haye out cold when they meet up in June or July. Haye says he wants to retire on or around his birthday in October.

If Wladimir knocks Haye into next year in June or July, that leaves Haye only four months at the most to fight one more time before hanging up the gloves. With Haye totally humiliated by Wladimir it’s going to be hard for Haye to justify that he deserves a shot against Vitali Klitschko. However, that’s what I see Haye doing.

I see him going full bore on trying to talk his way into a fight against Vitali in hopes that the older Klitschko brother will give him a shot and an opportunity to get a retirement payday. I’m hoping Vitali will ignore Haye and focus on fighting someone else. If Haye wants to fight someone after Wladimir beats him, let Haye finish his career fighting someone like Audley Harrison again or maybe Enzo Maccarinelli.

It would be just wrong for Haye to get a shot against Vitali after Wladimir runs over Haye, and I can’t see there being much demand for a Vitali-Haye fight if Haye gets crushed by Wladimir. However, I can see the British public ignoring completely Haye’s loss to Wladimir and eagerly wanting to see Haye fight Vitali for a sendoff fight.
