Solis-Klitschko: Odlanier in a good position to keep Vitali from Haye fight

By Dave Lahr: Unbeaten Cuban Odlanier Solis (17-0, 12 KO’s) can really ruin WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko’s world on March 19th by beating him, taking his title and keeping Vitali from being an alternate for the fight between his brother IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA heavyweight champ David Haye in June or July.

Vitali is the backup guy for that fight and will be the one to step in and act as Wladimir’s lifeline should he not be able to take the fight due to his slowly healing abdominal muscle tear, which is now going on three months since he first injured it. Solis wants to be the one to fight Haye and figures the best chance to make that a reality is to beat Vitali and then be the one to step in for Wladimir when he’s unable to fight Haye in June or July for one reason or another.

The 6’1″ Solis doesn’t have the same kind of size as 6’7″ Vitali, but he is younger than him, faster than him and the better all around fighter. The only thing that Solis has to do is make sure he’s taken off enough weight by March 19th so that he can move around and fight hard without tiring like he did in his last fight against Ray Austin.

Solis has to be able ton fight harder than that if he expects to win on March 19th. Fighting in spurts won’t get the job done. But if Solis takes off between 20 and 30 pounds, then the fight is his. He’ll beat Vitali and move on to a possible fight with Haye in the summer once Wladimir falls out of the bout because of his belly problem
