Is Amir Khan running from his demons?

Image: Is Amir Khan running from his demons?By Isobel Castillion: Literally, as his new adopted style of fighting could otherwise be known as running…backwards. Amir Khan 24(17KO)-1(1KO) seems to be reflecting a similar attitude to this new style of fighting outside of the ring. What is this match up with Paul McCloskey 22(12KO)-0 about then? McCloskey is the likeable European light Welterweight champion from Ireland who hasn’t fought anyone of any significance on the world scene until now. Although he deserves his chance to fight and beat Amir Khan for the WBA world light welterweight title, all the evidence is pointing towards him being the underdog.

McCloskey doesn’t guard his head with his gloves and just isn’t fast enough and unless he has worked dramatically on his speed and defence, is heading to get KO’d by Amir Khan on the 16th April in Manchester’s M.E.N. Arena.

What’s all this about then? Another predictable win to a heroes cheer for Amir Khan?

Khan taking a much needed easy fight to boost his confidence after the trauma of having to face Marcos Chino Maidana in his last fight?

Khan was one punch away from being completely destroyed by Marcos Maidana in that fight. He spent the tenth round hanging onto Maidana’s shorts, relying on the referee to rescue him. Khan turned his back on Chino over and over to avoid being knocked out.

Of course the toughest part of the fight for Khan was actually stepping in the ring with him, as Khan came up with one excuse after another not to fight him. Maidana who really doesn’t have the skill and talent of khan but enough guts for the two of them, was driven to having to ask the WBA to enforce the fight on Khan, at which point Khan reluctantly agreed to go ahead.

The fact is Khan didn’t want to fight Chino because with Chino’s hard hitting style, he was a just a little too close to Khan’s worst nightmare, the man Khan dreams of defeating but avoids like the plague, the man khan says he would run circles round in a rematch but wont rematch, Breidis Prescott AKA ‘The Khan Slayer.’

Now would have been the perfect time for Khan to fight him in a rematch and redeem himself.

Riding high on fame and money, goofing around in front of the cameras for reporters, khan couldn’t care a less about avenging his defeat to Prescott. He keeps pretending everything is great now he trains at the wild card gym.

Prescott has been completely forgotten about. its like he doesn’t exist. It was a fluke say Khans fans, let’s forget all about him.

How can we forget Prescott’s long skinny arms tearing through the air and literally whipping Khans head with the power of a horse to knock him out. While the Colombian corner celebrated the victory the rest of the arena fell silent in a state of shock and horror. The commentator Ian Darke describing it as one of the biggest stunner’s of British boxing history of the modern era.

I think Khan’s putting on a front with all this joking around, it’s all an act. I think the real Khan still feels deeply humiliated .

Roach claims Khan is leagues above Prescott now, so no need to fight him. It’s like saying ‘I could climb mount Everest but I just cant be bothered.’

I guess khan just isn’t one of those inspirational fighters who makes you think you can face anything in your own life because they did it in theirs. He’s a play it safe kind of guy.
Khan’s father keeps reminding us in interviews how ordinary Khan is, I agree with him.

It’s probably a good idea for Khan to keep on running from Prescott because Breidis Prescott would beat Khan all over again and I think he knows it.
