By Eric Thomas: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect David Price (9-0, 7 KO’s) will be assisting Cuban heavyweight contender Odlanier Solis (17-0, 12 KO’s) prepare for his title challenge of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) on March 19th at the Lanxess-Arena, Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

The 6’8” Price, a former Bronze medalist for Britain in the 2008 Olympics, will be heading on out to Germany to serve as one of Solis’ sparring partners to try and get him prepared for the 6’7” Vitali. It’s going to be a tough task for the 6’1” Solis, however, because Vitali is a huge heavyweight and there’s nothing that Price can show Solis that will get him ready to beat someone like Vitali.

Although Solis will be able to give Solis some practice in terms of getting the Cuban accustomed to what he’ll be facing with Vitali size-wise, but the skill level between Price and Vitali are just too far apart for Solis to get much out of his sparring sessions with Price.

At the end of the day, Solis’ best chance of beating Vitali may come down to whether the big Ukrainian suffers and injury of some kind. It’s happened once in the past in his loss to Chris Byrd in 2000, but it’s obviously not something that you can count on happening. Solis will likely get blown out of the water by Vitali and suffer a one-sided defeat like most of Vitali’s recent opponents.

Price defeated Osborne Machimana by a 3rd round TKO last night on Saturday, and looked good in taking out his over-matched opponent. At 27, Price needs to speed up his progress that he’s fighting if he wants to contend for a title before he’s 30.
