Khan-McCloskey: Is this a good PPV fight for British fans?

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) has hand-picked the light-punching Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s) to fight on April 16th for Khan’s UK fight for his loyal British fans to watch. It’s been a year since Khan last fought in front of his loving British fans, and now that he’s come back, he’s decided to fight McCloskey of all people.

The kicker here is that the fight will be shown on pay-per-view on Sky rather than on free television. Let’s pretend for a second that I’m a Brit. I wake up and I’m having my cup of hot tea along with some rice pudding, bacon, sausages and eggs, along with buttered toast, and I read on my favorite site boxingnews24.com that Khan’s fight against McCloskey will be one that I’ll have to pay to watch. The shock would probably knock my choppers out, and after repositioning them I would be in a fury. I’d have to pull out the hard stuff to settle my nerves.

I don’t mind seeing Khan take on little known fighter from the homeland once in a while as a tidbit, but I don’t want to have to pay to see it. I don’t think this would sit right with me. But then again, I like to see quality fights that are competitive going in. Perhaps British fans will actually like paying to see Khan face McCloskey and will happily hand over their cash to purchase it droves. With food and petrol going up and unemployment high, Khan’s loyal fans will still happily pay to watch his fight against McCloskey on PPV.
