Khan’s punch resistance may be diminished from the Maidana beating

Image: Khan’s punch resistance may be diminished from the Maidana beatingBy Scott Gilfoid: We don’t know what WBA Super World light welterweight champion Amir Khan has left in the tank after his beating by Marcos Maidana last December. With the amount of huge shots that Khan was hit with by Maidana, we could be talking about a fighter whose punch resistance has gone dramatically downhill from that fight.

It might not matter than Khan is facing the pillow punching Paul McCloskey in his next fight on April 16th, even a light hitter like McCloskey might be able to tap Khan on the side of the head and have him staggering around the ring like a drunk. I don’t like this.

I have grave doubts that Khan take more than a tap or two on his fragile chin by McCloskey before we start seeing Khan stumbling around the ring looking to hold for dear life. I’m not sure who’s working the fight as the referee but Khan really needs a good ref to step in 24/7 to break up the action when/if he starts getting battered like he was in the Maidana fight.

A good referee that breaks up the one-sided action is good to have if your Khan. But seriously, I really am worried about Khan’s ability to take shots now after the sustained beating he took from Maidana in rounds 10 through 12. I think Maidana may have ruined Khan’s chin. I hope not, because it will be so sad to see McCloskey making easy work of Khan and ruining the chances for boxing fans to see Timothy Bradley in there with him in July.
