Fury says Haye isn’t fighting the Klitschkos because he’s not big enough to handle them

By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury (13-0, 9 KO’s) recently visited IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in his training camp while he prepares for his April 30th bout against undefeated Dereck Chisora. Fury, a huge heavyweight at 6’9″ 250+, explained his theory on why WBA heavyweight champion David Haye has been reluctant to get in the ring with either of the Klitschko brothers, saying “There has been all sorts of speculation flying around why David Haye isn’t fighting one of the Klitschko brothers, but in my honest opinion I believe it’s because David isn’t big enough to deal with the likes of Wladimir or Vitali.”

What Fury says is true. Haye might just be too small to compete with the Klitschko brothers and realizes this, hence he’s not making the move to fight them despite all the money he would make if he fought one of them. Haye did prove that he can beat a huge fighter that doesn’t throw punches back at him when Haye defeated the timid-looking Audley Harrison in a 3rd round knockout last year. However, Harrison is hardly a good comparison to the kinds of shots that he would be getting hit with against the Klitschkos. Harrison looked too afraid to let his hands go and just let Haye do whatever he wanted to do in there, but the Klitschkos are a completely different story.

Fury has a fight coming up on February 19th. He still doesn’t know who he’ll be facing. He had been trying to get a fight against the overweight 42-year-old Francois Botha, but the British Boxing Board of Control refused to sanction that fight. As such, Fury needs to get someone to step in and fight him on 2/19. One would hope that he gets someone that can give him some badly needed rounds. He looked sloppy in his last fight against Zack Page in December. Fury won the fight by an eight round decision but his form really suffered in the 2nd half of the fight when he just started heaving shots like he was a novice.
