Froch to start training for May 21st bout against Johnson: I smell fear

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) says that he’s starting his training this week for his semifinal Super Six tournament bout against Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) on May 21st. I smell fear coming from Froch a million miles away. Here Froch has months to go before this fight, and he’s already starting his training. At this rate, Froch is going to be a walking skeleton by the time he enters the ring against Johnson.

It’s widely known that Froch works incredibly hard during his training camps and keeps track of all the little difference exercises he does in his training book, but I think he’s about to overdo it for the Johnson fight. I can see Froch, worried like mad about losing this fight, getting in there and training himself to the point where he’s weak and drained. Froch needs to relax, and realize that this fight is no different than any other. So what if Froch loses the bout and gets drummed out of the Super Six?

It would mean that it wasn’t meant to be. exercising like mad to try and forgo the inevitable is a waste of time in my book. My advice is for Froch to sit back, relax and start his training nine weeks before the fight and save himself the wear and tear of doing all these useless exercises this early. Besides, Johnson’s a knockout puncher and it doesn’t matter if Froch comes in shape or not, it’s his head that’s going to be getting tested, not his endurance.
