By Dan Ambrose: A cruiserweight Super Six tournament similar to Showtime’s super middleweight Super Six tourney, could take place in 2011. Sauerland Promotions is currently interested in putting the tourney together and it would give them a great opportunity to market some of their cruiserweights. The contestants that are being mentioned for the tournament are Denis Lebedev, Marcos Huck, Yoan Pablo Hernandez, Steve Herelius, Krzystof Wlodarczyk, Steve Cunningham and Guillermo Jones. Either Hernandez or Herelius will be filtered out depending on how their fight goes this weekend.

The only real question about the tourney would have to be the judges. The tournament could be mired in controversy if one of the fighters, such as Huck, ends up beating some of the contestants by controversial decisions. Huck recently fought Lebedev in Germany and appeared to lose the fight, yet was given the decision.

The tournament is going to need to have judges that can get the fights scored without controversy if the tournament is going to really mean anything. Given that many of the fights will be taking place in Germany where there are often controversial decisions, it’s important that the fights be scored correctly instead of ones that appear to be scored towards the home fighter. Ideally, some of these fights need to take place in neutral venues but that’s not likely going to happen. As such, I can see Huck winning the tournament, but with a massive amount of controversy. It might leave a sour taste in the minds of many boxing fans and instead of creating a huge star at the end of the tourney, it may create the opposite of that, at least outside of Germany.
