By Sean McDaniel: The fight between WBO light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer (36-2, 29 KO’s) and challenger Nathan Cleverly (21-0, 10 KO’s) has been pushed back to May 21st from April. Cleverly, 24, is hoping to capture the WBO title and then make a name for himself in unification fights against the winner of the WBC clash between champion Jean Pascal and challenger Bernard Hopkins.

Cleverly would also like to fight IBF champion Tavoris Cloud and WBA champion Beibut Shumenov. The Cloud, Hopkins and Pascal fights are the ones that will make a name for Cleverly if he can get by Braehmer and then somehow beat one or more of those guys.

Cleverly has a big test with Braehmer, because he’s got good skills and does well against fighters that come forward the way that Cleverly does. However, Braehmer is 32 now, and he’s starting to show signs of slowing down some. This could be all Cleverly needs to get a good win and then move on to bigger and better things. Hopefully, Braehmer doesn’t get injured or sick before the fight. He pulled out of his last bout with Shumenov after suffering a bad case of the runs leading up to the bout which caused Braehmer to have to leave Kazakhstan and fly back to Germany to get medical care. There are some that think that Braehmer did this to get out of the fight. If this happens again, then you may have the answer.

Cleverly didn’t look very good in his last fight against Nadjib Mohammedi last December. Although Cleverly got the win by a 12 round decision, he hardly impressed. He took a lot of shots and seemed to forget about his defense entirely.
