Calzaghe, 38, hasn’t fought since ending his career with a one-sided 12 round decision over Roy Jones Jr. in November 2008, is someone that Cleverly has patterned himself after and would like for Calzaghe to help him get ready for his most important bout of his career on April 2nd.

Speaking with frankwarren.tv, Cleverly said “It would be great if Joe did come out of retirement. he’s definitely got a lot to offer me.”

The chances of Calzaghe working with Cleverly in a sparring partner capacity are about slim and none. I can’t see Calzaghe wanting to work with Cleverly in that kind of capacity, although it would great for Cleverly if he did. Calzaghe would be able to give Cleverly a lot of tips in how to handle the slick Braehmer, and he might be the deciding factor in getting him up to speed so that he can come out of this fight with a win. Cleverly has turned into a brawler in recent fights against Karo Murat and Nadjib Mohammedi. That kind of style of fighting may work against Cleverly in the Braehmer fight, because the German fighter does well against crude sluggers. To beat Braehmer, you have to mix in boxing and slug less. He’ll eat up Cleverly if he comes in trying to punch with Braehmer all night long.
