Image: Andre Ward talks Abraham and FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten WBA Super World super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) is skeptical about how much his next Super Six tournament opponent Arthur Abraham (32-2, 26 KO’s) got with his 2nd round TKO over the badly over-matched Stjepan Bozic on February 12th. Ward doesn’t see much value in that fight, because of both the way that it ended and because Bozic is nothing like him.

Speaking to Eastsideboxing.com’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio program, Ward said “Personally I don’t think he gained much at all…He’s getting a false sense of security by fighting a guy who, from the research I’ve done, was a former sparring partner of his. So they knew each other really well.”

Yes, I totally agree with Mr. Ward. I think it was silly to face a former sparring partner, especially one that had little chance to win. How is that Abraham can get any confidence beating a guy like that? If Abraham is that fragile that he needs to take on a guy way out of his class to get confidence, then he’s not going to stand a chance against Ward in their Super Six tournament semifinal bout on May 14th.

Ward had this to say about Froch: “For example, Carl Froch. I mean I put on a great performance against Kessler and then he [Froch] comes back and fights Kessler and it was really a life and death type fight. He lost and then he goes on the record to say he retired Kessler. Things are said. Things are done in the sport that will have you scratching your head, but it’s not the first time I’ve heard that.”

I totally agree with Ward. He goes in and puts on a clinic in beating Kessler by a one-sided 11 round technical decision, while Froch struggles badly and gets beaten. Kessler has to leave the Super Six tourney because of eye problems that were brought about by Kessler’s fight with Ward. It wasn’t because of Froch that Kessler had to leave the Super Six. Ward put a hurting on Kessler in their fight and gave him some eye problems from that fight.
