Why is Klitschko v Chisora a 5 star fight?

By Mohammed Nasir: If you go to boxrec.com right now and look up Wladimir Klitschko v Dereck Chisora you will see that it is rated as a 5 star fight. That’s just a stark example but anyone who follows boxing online will notice that a large section of the boxing community is looking forward to this as though it was Hagler v Hearns II, including some of the other writers on this site.

The truth is this is a joke of a fight and one that I expect Klitschko to walk through with little difficulty. I predict an easy decision or late stoppage for the Ukrainian. In fact he came out and said that he is willing to fight David Haye only 9 weeks later, clearly Klitschko views this fight as a very profitable sparring session. Chisora is a prospect, nothing more and nothing less. Taking this fight now robs us all of a far more competitive match up 2 or 3 years down the line.

If you look up Chisora’s scalps, the most impressive name that fight fans may recognize is the former challenger to Vitali’s WBC title Danny Williams; he was demolished and that fight took place over six years ago. The second biggest name is Sam Sexton who, with a record of 13-2, is little more than a novice himself. Chisora certainly has guts to take the fight but I don’t think guts alone should be enough to earn a world title fight. A fight against Adamek would have been much better for both men.

Klitschko, through no fault of his own, faces the danger of regressing in his ability if he continues to fight guys that he can breeze through. He should look to make the Haye fight happen as soon as possible so he can finally get the universal recognition of being one of the best heavy’s.

The only good thing to come out of this fight is hearing David Haye cry like a baby at being over looked by the true star of the heavyweight division, like a jilted cheerleader blogging to her girlfriends. May he should have thought about that before you set a new low by avoiding Klitschko and accepting the ‘challenge’ of Fraudley Harrison, the biggest joke in British boxing history.
