Which is the bigger fight? Khan-Prescott II or Khan-McCloskey

By Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) has been dismissive of his loss to Breidis Prescott, saying that he’s learned from the defeat and he would have nothing to gain from fighting Prescott now due to his lack of success since their fight in 2008. However, since Khan is fighting in the UK in what is effectively nothing more than a tune-up, why then shouldn’t Khan be open to fighting Prescott again? I may be wrong but I would guess that a fight involving Khan and Prescott would be a bigger success than Khan vs. EBU light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s).

I don’t think McCloskey has any real fans outside of Ireland and he looks completely slow and weak. Say what you want about Prescott having lost a couple of close fights since the Khan fight, he’s not slow and he’s certainly not weak. I think boxing fans in the UK would be much more interesting in seeing a Khan-Prescott rematch instead of Khan vs. McCloskey fight. Prescott really owned Khan in their fight with his hooks.

It was like he couldn’t miss with them. Even when Khan tried to make some adjustments after taking some big shots in the opening seconds, Prescott’s hooks were able to go right around Khan’s guard and find his head. It was like watching George Foreman vs. Joe Frazier I. That’s how badly Prescott owned Khan. I can’t see much changing in a rematch between them, which is why I see Khan’s excuses for not fighting Prescott as nothing more than excuses to cover up for Khan’s fear of getting knocked out again.

There’s no comparison between these two different fights. The Prescott vs. Khan fight is the much better option for fans than watching Khan beat up on a weak puncher with no hand speed like McCloskey. If HBO and Sky Sports go for the Khan vs. McCloskey option, they’re going to be sorry because it’s going to be a mismatch because McCloskey shouldn’t be ranked in the top tier. He’s a 2nd tier fighter in my view.
