Image: Pacquiao thinks Mosley will be more difficult than MargaritoBy Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao believes that his 39-year-old opponent Shane Mosley will give him a tougher fight than slow as molasses Antonio Margarito was for him in November in a one-sided 12 round decision victory. I don’t buy it. I see Mosley as being weaker, older and less able to fight more than a couple of rounds without freezing up like an old car that’s finally bit the dust. But even if Mosley does turn out to be a little tougher than Margarito, is that really saying anything?

If you looking at two fighters that are no longer at the top of their game and saying one is tougher than the other, what difference does it make if they’re both awful? What does it prove when one non-ncomeptitive fighter is better than the other non-competitive fighter? Mosley’s coming into the Pacquiao fight without a win in two years, while Margarito came into the ring with a victory in his last fight against a fringe contender that few people have ever heard of. Before that, Margarito had his backside absolutely handed to him in a 9th round TKO loss.

Pacquiao had this to say about Mosley at abs-cbn news – “Shane is more difficult foe than Margarito. Mosley has speed and he definitely knows his way in the ring.” I think Mosley will be tougher than Margarito but only for two rounds. After that, Mosley will fade, look tired and stop throwing. He’ll then be nothing more than an old punching bag for Pacquiao until the referee mercifully stops the slaughter. God, I hope this will be the end of Pacquiao facing fighters that don’t have a chance. Getting tired of watching him beat up on guys that have no chance before they even enter the ring. Mosley got the gig just because of his name recognition.

Mosley was picked because casual fans who have no clue about boxing might have heard of him over the years in his past fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Fernando Vargas, Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya, to name but a few. However, those were many yesterdays ago and Mosley is now almost 100% shot. It’s going to be like dragging out an old lounge singer from Vegas and asking him to perform present days hits in front of teenagers. It’s going to be a huge embarrassment because Mosley doesn’t have it anymore and fans will be paying big money to learn this.
