Image: Mosley-Pacquiao: Shane can derail the Manny express if he gets to him earlyBy Dan Ambrose: We’ve learned from watching the 39-year-old Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KO’s) in action in his last two fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Mora that Mosley is dangerous early in his fights when he still has his explosive power, but he’s pretty average when the fight goes past the 6th round. Mosley is facing a workaholic fighter Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KO’s) on May 7th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mosley’s only real chance of winning this fight is if he can get to Pacquiao early and look to hurt him with a hard right hand and then try and finish him off before Pacquiao has time to regroup and get his corner for advice from his trainer Freddie Roach.

If Mosley can get to Pacquiao before he gets his fight-saving advice from Roach, then Mosley has small chance of pulling off an upset by stopping Pacquiao early. It’s not going to be easy, though, because Roach is going to have already warned Pacquiao about staying away from serious exchanges with Mosley in the first three rounds of the fight. However, Pacquiao being Pacquiao, he’s going to veer from that advice soon enough once he finds out how easy it is to hit the 39-year-old Mosley.

Pacquiao will probably get a little over confident and put himself in the position where Mosley will be able to land a hard enough shot to stun him and get him discombobulated. Mosley’s best chance is go hurt Pacquiao at the start of one of the early rounds, and look to finish him off before he ever gets a chance to reach out for the lifeline of his trusty trainer.
