Image: McCrory says he's tired of Haye not making the fight with KlitschkoBy Scott Gilfoid: Sky commentator and former International Boxing Federation (IBF) cruiserweight champion Glen McCrory was less than pleased with the latest boxing news about WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) not making a fight with IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s). The two fighters are supposed to be fighting on July 2nd, but Wladimir wants a harmless tune-up bout on April 30th against Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s), but Haye is now saying he’s done with the Klitschkos and doesn’t see himself fighting them.

McCrory had this to say about Haye on the Sky Sports News Blog: “Well there’s our first disappointment of 2011. Of all the big fights we wanted to see this year, David Haye vs. Wladimir Klitschko was top of everybody’s list. I’m no different to any punter out there and like you all, I am gutted that this won’t be happening in April. Gutted. But for the rest of us, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. And as much as I live David, as much as he is a friend of mine, I am getting a little bit tired of him not making this fight. I know Adam Booth [Haye’s trainer/manager] has said they were willing to ‘bend over backwards’ to make it happen, but come on. This is the heavyweight championship of the world we’re talking about here. Let them have the pay per view money, let them have home advantage, let them have whatever corner they want, because if David is confident of beating Wladimir, all that will count for nothing when he does. Take the thin end of the wedge, take any end of the wedge, just get it on.”

I wonder if McCrory has ever considered that Haye might not feel confident of his chances at beating Wladimir or his brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and is just looking for a way out of fighting them. Haye doesn’t even mention Vitali’s name, almost never. It’s like that guy doesn’t exist at all. Haye could be scared in his boots at facing Wladimir and by him saying he wants a tune-up, Haye is out of there like rat running from a big cat. It doesn’t seem rational that Haye would go off the deep end like this just because Wladimir wants a tune-up. There’s got to be more there than meets the eye. I think Haye is afraid, and with this tune-up for Wladimir, Haye has got the perfect excuse to run away and claim that Wladimir messed things up.
