Image: Kell Brook said he used to give Khan a serious whippingBy William Mackay: Number #1 ranked World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight contender Kell Brook (23-0, 16 KO’s) has a different slant on what took place in his sparring sessions with Amir Khan back when they were amateurs five years ago. Khan recently hinted on his twitter that he had handled Brook during their sparring sessions, saying “Frank Warren has offered me Kell Brook. Ask him what I used to do to him in sparring.”

Brook, however, is saying that Khan was the one that was getting dominated during the sparring sessions, not the other way around.

In an article at the Sheffield Star, Brook said “When we [Khan and him] sparred together as amateurs, they had to separate us because I was giving him a serious hiding…When we got in the ring, I pasted him. That’s what happened, not the other way round like he’s saying. The fact is he is dodging me. I read that Frank Warren offered Amir £1.5m to fight me but it was bigger than that. He doesn’t want it, but I’d love the opportunity. He is a nice lad, but perhaps overrated. He is fast but has a rubbish chin.”

Well there it is. Brook has spoken and boxing fans well have to guess which is fighter is right. Obviously Frank would know who got the better of who in the sparring sessions. But one thing that is clear is that Khan wants no part of Brook for whatever reason, just as Khan also dismisses Breidis Prescott, who knocked him out in one round in 2008. Khan never avenged that loss, but dismisses Prescott in the same way he does with Brook. It makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

It sure would be nice to see Khan step it up and face Brook instead of someone like Lamont Peterson, who is coming off a controversial 10 round draw in which Peterson was knocked down twice and battered by the hard hitting Victor Ortiz. I had Ortiz winning the fight. It would be sad if Khan were to face Peterson after that kind of performance.
