Holt destroys Arroyo, Conyers upsets De La Rosa
By Jim Dower: Tonight in undercard action in the Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley card at the Pontiac, Silverdome, in Michigan, welterweight Allen Conyer (12-4, 9 Ko’s) pulled off a huge upset of the highly hyped prospect James De La Rosa (20-1, 12 KO’s), defeating him by a 10 round unanimous decision. Conyers, who came into the fight having lost his last two fights to James Kirkland and Said Ouali, dropped De La Rosa three times in the fight and really smacked him around to get the win by the scores of 95-92, 95-92 and 95-92.
Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) light welterweight champion Kendall Holt (26-4, 14 KO’s) rebounded from a 6th round stoppage loss in his last fight against Kaizer Mabuza in February 2010, to destroy Lenin Arroyo in the 1st round on Saturday night. Holt unleashed a powerful left hand to the head of Arroyo that knocked him down. The referee then stopped the bout at 1:50 of the 1st round.
