Image: Did Mosley flat out give up against Floyd Mayweather in their Fight?By Allen Hmiel: This has bothered me for some time and I am sure it has bothered boxing fans who know the sport well and follow it closely. I got the distinct impression after watching Mosley-Mayweather for twelve rounds it seemed Mosley just was content to last the fight out and survive standing upright! Outside of the big punch landed by Shane in round two against Mayweather that staggered boxing greatest fighter, Mosley did nothing the rest of the fight. Nothing.

I thought going into the fight that Shane would beat Floyd Jr. and finally put to rest the charade of smoke and mirrors surrounding Mayweather. Boy was I shocked when Floyd absolutely dismantled and embarrassed Shane and basically made Mosley give up and hang on taking pride in just lasting the whole twelve rounds against the smaller light hitting Floyd Jr. Mayweather was obviously super quick and almost un-hittable obviously outclassing the old Shane and exposing the fatal flaws of what age had done to slow Mosley down. But Shane did nothing but run and try and last out the fight. Where was the pride of a once great champion, the warrior that beat some of the world’s best?

Shane commented after the fight telling Larry Merchant “he was tight”. Tight! Hell, Shane was beaten down and embarrassed by Mayweather to the point it seemed Mosley just gave up and relegated himself to thinking that Mayweather’s skills were no match for the age depleted reflexes Shane had remaining. Does a fighter realize early in a fight that he has no chance of winning and goes into survival mode just to last the 12 rounds?

It baffles me to this day how a fighter can be beat so badly and look so outclassed against Mayweather and look extremely average in his next fight against Mora and yet get right back to the top in a fight with the super quick Pacquiao? What has Mosley proved that has earned him another Marquee match up and huge payday? Boxing today is becoming a confusing sport where fights are being given to fighters for their name, not their ability. Of who they once were not who they are today.
