By Jason Kim: Unbeaten WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) faces WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) this Saturday night in a unification bout at the Silverdome, in Pontiac, Michigan. The winner of this fight will pretty much be considered the best fighter in the light welterweight division.

WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan will face the winner of this fight, but few people are giving Khan much of a chance to beat either of these guys based on how bad Khan looked in his last fight against Marcos Maidana. Bradley, 27, is in his prime right now and is coming off of impressive 12 round decision win over welterweight Luis Carlos Abregu in his last fight last year in July. Bradley is looking almost unbeatable right now, and he had to take the fight with welterweight Abregu just to find a competitive opponent because Bradley has cleaned out a lot of the best competition at light welterweight.

Bradley intends on taking advantage of Alexander’s leaky defense on Saturday night, saying this in an interview by Greg Leon at boxingtalk.com: “He’s [Alexander] not on my level. He’s got some great technical flaws. He gets hit a lot and his defense is weak. I think I’m going to be able to exploit a lot of that.”

Indeed, Alexander is easy to hit, as he showed in his narrow 12 round decision win over Andriy Kotelnik last year. Alexander gets hit with jabs and counter shots. He doesn’t seem to be able to pick up punches while they’re in flight and tends to get hit with a lot of shots. In the past, Alexander has been able to cover up for having poor defensive skills by having good offensive skills. His offense has been his defense. However, against Kotelnik, Alexander’s offense was neutralized by Kotelnik and he found himself in a fight where he forced to try and defend. He did a poor job and probably should have lost the fight.
