The Klitschkos say Haye can pick whichever one he wants to fight: Who will it be?

Image: The Klitschkos say Haye can pick whichever one he wants to fight: Who will it be?By Dan Ambrose: The Klitschko brothers, who share three of the four heavyweight titles, made a joint statement recently to the German news organization the Bild, saying “We promise that in 2011 the fight against [WBA heavyweight champion David] Haye will come. We want this fight at all costs. He may choose against which of us he wants to step in the ring to lose his world title.” Haye, 30, is reportedly ready to face Wladimir Kltischko and has already agreed to a 50-50 deal, which included 50% of the British pay-per-view money that the Klitschkos had been requested.

However, it’s a fight that may not happen next, as Wladimir doesn’t seem to be in a big hurry to fight Haye right now after pulling out of a fight with British heavyweight Dereck Chisora two weeks ago. We may see Wladimir take on someone else and then possibly Haye. However, it’s hard to believe that the Klitschkos will leave it up to Haye to make the decision about which fighter he wants to take on because they usually are very assertive about what they want to happen during negotiations.

Wladimir may have the better athletic skills compared to his slower brother, but his chin is weak and he’s not as relaxed or as confident as Vitali. It may not matter, however, because Wladimir has a lot more size and experience at heavyweight compared to the smaller Haye. We don’t really know how good Haye is at the heavyweight level because the toughest opponent he’s faced in the past two years was the slow and old Nikolay Valuev, who Haye barely beat by a 12 round majority decision in 2009.

If Haye were to fight Wladimir the same way he fought Valuev, Haye would lose badly and not win a round. He can’t beat Wladimir throwing 10 punches per round and just running in circles. The same goes for if Haye were to fight Vitali. Haye would have to make a much more concerted effort if he wants to come out on top against Vitali. Throwing 10 punches per round just isn’t going to get the job done against the Klitschkos.
