The Klitschkos promise they’ll fight Haye in 2011, and will let him pick which brother to fight

By Dan Ambrose: The Klitschko brothers made a statement in the German news publication at the BILD, saying “We promise that in 2011 the fight against [David] Haye will come. We want this fight at all costs. he can choose which of us he wants to step into the ring against to lose his world title.” The Klitschko brothers needed waste time by saying which of the brothers Haye wants to fight, because he and his trainer/manager Adam Booth have already come out with their choice and want the weaker chinned Wladimir to fight first.

You have to wonder whether Wladimir is up to the task. It may be in their best interest to have Vitali fight Haye first, because Haye showed the ability in his last fight against Audley Harrison to close the distance and create problems on the inside with nonstop punching while Harrison was attempting to clinch. Since a big part of Wladimir’s game involves clinching, he would be at a huge disadvantage against Haye because the British heavyweight really takes advantage of fighters that try to clinch him by landing shots in close, and often times landing vicious rabbit shots.

It may be that Wladimir would need to change his entire game if he wanted to beat a fighter like Haye. It would take a long time for Wladimir to learn not to clinch, and it may not be possible. In that case, it would be better that Wladimir just not take the fight with Haye and let his big brother Vitali take the fight. Vitali doesn’t clinch, and on the very rare occasions he does, his chin is more than strong enough to take shots in close. Haye would huge problems against Vitali because he wouldn’t be able to hurt him on the inside the way he would Wladimir. And on the outside, Vitali would pick Haye apart with jabs and left hooks.
