Pacquiao says Mosley isn’t an easy fight

By Chris Williams: It looks like Manny Pacquiao is going to give Bob Arum and trainer Freddie Roach in trying to build up Shane Mosley in the eyes of boxing fans so that people will see his May 7th fight against the 39-year-old Mosley as a competitive one rather than the slaughter that it appears to be. Pacquiao, speaking to Philstar.com, said “He’s [Mosley] good. It’s not an easy fight. There’s no easy fights out there. They said [Antonio] Margarito was an easy fight, but you all saw that it was not. And Mosley knocked out Margarito.”

Yes, Mosley knocked out Margarito but that was over a year ago when Margarito made the mistake of taking off a ton of weight in the final weeks before the fight and came in weak and weight drained for Mosley. A year went by before Mosley fought again and he looked horrible in a one-sided 12 round decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr in May. And then Mosley looked just as bad in a questionable gift draw against Sergio Mora in his last fight. The thing is when you get old like Mosley, fighters age rapidly and tend to lose whatever they still had in a short period of time. You can go from still fighting at the top of your game to being completely shot overnight when you get up there near 40.

This is going to be an easy fight for Pacquaio, just like his fight with Margarito. That wasn’t a hard fight other than the pain that Pacquiao suffered in one round when he was hit with a body shot. It was a mismatch for the rest of the fight. It doesn’t matter that Mosley beat Margarito over a year ago, because that Mosley doesn’t exist anymore, which is probably the only reason he got this fight. When Mosley was looking good, Pacquiao’s management were in no hurry to fight him. It’s only now that he’s shot that suddenly they decided it was a great business move to fight him. Heck, yeah, it’s a great move. Anytime you fight someone that you know you can beat and make good money in doing so, it’s a great move. But it’s not going to be a good fight for boxing fans to see.
