Image: Ortiz sees Khan easily beating MaidanaBy Eric Thomas: Previous Marcos Maidana victim Victor Ortiz thinks that WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan will easily beat Maidana this Saturday night when the two tangle in a fight that has a lot riding on it at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ortiz, 23, was stopped in the 6th round by Maidana last year in a fight that saw both fighters trade multiple knockdowns. Ortiz lost when he quit in the 6th when the going got a little too rough for him and he is still trying to rebuild his career ever since.

In an interview by Ortiz at the telegraph.co.uk, Ortiz had this to say about Maidana: “I wish I had listed to my trainer [and not slugged with Maidana]. Other than a big right hand, Maidana has nothing. Khan is way too fast for him and, in my opinion, will win easily.”

Ortiz was supposed to easily beat Maidana, but look what happened to him. Now, Ortiz thinks Khan will easily beat Maidana. We’ll have to see if Ortiz knows what he’s talking about. It isn’t like Ortiz had a choice in the matter of whether to slug with Maidana or not. Maidana went right at him and forced Ortiz to fight him. When Ortiz did try to move away from him in the 5th and 6th rounds, Maidana was quick to cut off the ring and blast Ortiz with big shots. I think Ortiz fought the only way he could against Maidana by slugging. It was either that or he would have been blasted out against the ropes.
