Maidana looks a lot stronger than Khan at weigh-in, Amir is going to lose

By Scott Gilfoid: It was shocking how much stronger Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) looked compared to WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) at yesterday’s weigh-in for tonight’s fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Maidana looked like a little linebacker, solid as a rock and mean looking. When he stared at Khan, I could of sworn I saw daggers coming out of Maidana’s eyes and shooting for the skinny throat of Khan.

Compared to Maidana, Khan looked like a skinny twig and seemed really uneasy when the two fighters came together for a stare down. When they stood side by side looking at the audience, it looked like one of those Tony Atlas commercials where you have the skinny before picture of a guy getting sand kicked on him at the beach and the after picture where he’s now muscular. Maidana looks a lot stronger than Khan. I don’t remember ever seeing Maidana look this good before.

Oh, I don’t like this. Khan is going to get his head taken off tonight and I don’t what his genius trainer Freddie Roach can do to stop it from happening other than coming out into the ring with Khan and running interference. A knockout loss for Khan tonight will be a good thing. It will knock him off his high horse and make him realize that he’s not as good as he thinks he is. I almost died laughing when Khan said this on Sky Sports News: “I’m a better fighter since Freddie Roach started training me . I haven’t been knocked down in my last five fight.”

Gee, I wonder if the careful match-making has anything to do with that? It helps when you get put in with nothing but weak punchers, doesn’t it? Khan has fought five times since the his 1st round blowout loss to Breidis Prescott, and has been matched soft in all five fights. Tonight, Khan finally is back in with a puncher, and I see him in a world of hurt. Roach better have his white towel ready to throw in the ring to save his fighter before Maidana adds the coup de grace on a staggering Khan.
