Image: Khan vs. Maidana: Can Marcos pull off the victory?By Edgar Solorzano: On December 11th, current WBA World light welterweight champion Amir “King” Khan, 23-1, 17 KO’s, will step in the ring against Marcos “El Chino” Maidana, 29-1, 27 KO’s at the Mandalay Bay Resort & casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

British champion Amir Khan has gained the respect of many boxing fans around the world, by showing his love for the sport and desire to fight any modern warrior that claims to be the best. King Khan showed the fight fans he can keep up with talented fighters like Paulie Malignaggi. Although Amir Khan is one of the youngest talented boxers in the game and some may consider him as the future of British boxing. His opponent Marcos Maidana is no joke; he has the heart of a lion and a tremendous punching power.

Many boxing experts are favoring Amir Khan and predicting that it should be another victory for the British rising star. Although the majority of people are choosing Amir Khan to dominate the Argentine warrior. I believe that the fight will either end as a draw or Maidana might pull of the victory by split-decision. It won’t be an easy fight for both soldiers when they start that battle as soon as the bell rings. They will have to use all their weapons and be mentally ready. However is not about the weapons they carry, but how they use them. Khan has tremendous speed and needs to know how to use it when fighting someone with good punching power like Maidana. Amir Khan will have to jab to create space and follow his rhythm; he will need to rely on his stamina to pull off the win.

On the other hand Marcos Maidana will have to stay strong, rely on his power and timing. Many fight-fans and even boxing experts question Amir Khan’s chin, since he’s been knocked out before. Well don’t expect a KO, they might be some exciting knockdowns and tremendous action on Saturday, but there’s no doubt this fight will be a close one. I might be one of the few to favor the Argentine warrior. But there are three reasons why I believe that if someone ends up winning the battle, it will be Marcos Maidana.

Reason #1

Amir Khan has a quick jab and lands good combinations, but many still question whether he has a solid chin. When I was watching the Khan vs. Malignaggi fight, Khan looked great but didn’t have good head movement. If he’s going to battle against a hungry fighter that wants to prove the world wrong. Amir will have to step his level up by improving his body and head movement. One good combination from Maidana could cause a KO or a robbery as in stealing Amir’s confidence. Just like on the Maidana vs. Ortiz fight.

Reason #2

Khan happens to get too much into the fight at times and forgets to follow some game plans. He may have Freddie Roach on his side, but if he starts throwing too many combinations and getting wild. Maidana might land a few powerful hooks, almost as powerful as Margarito’s famous brick punches. If he happens to land that explosive hook or combination, Maidana might get too confident and fight as he was fighting any other boxer. As confidence can be the key to success. All the little things can help you win the fight; making little mistakes in boxing can cause a KO. For example; you can’t really ride a bike without a tire or chain.

Reason # 3

Maidana gets pretty low when fighting, that might frustrate Amir Khan. Since he might have to go down a little when he tries to outbox the Argentine beast. Marcos Maidana has an interesting offense, he’s an inside boxer and fights like a mini heavyweight. When both fighters’ trade punches, Amir will have to step in and out and try to avoid Maidanas power.

As far as I’m concerned, both of these fighters have tremendous talent and want to move to the next level. It will be an interesting fight, both fighters’ having almost an equal chance of winning. Although several boxing experts favor Khan, I’m picturing a different battle and believe Maidana will be the soldier that will get rewarded. While my prediction may sound fictional right now, there’s a possible chance it will become reality. The boxing world may be silent without an answer at this moment, however tomorrow there will be a new classic battle with a new champion written in the history books.
