Image: Is Amir Khan vastly overrated and way over-hyped??By Allen Hmiel: Amir Khan seemingly a golden child of boxing the English Muslim under the direction of the legendary Freddie Roach is on a collision course with destiny. Or is he? Could Amir Khan be one of the most overhyped boxers of the modern age? Ko’d violently by a very average Prescott has left the Khan doubters with enough ammo to last forever. With a suspect chin and apparently no real defense outside of his bronze face stopping repeated blows to the head Khan seems to be making a transparent reputation as a boxer with extremely fast hands good movement and absolutely no defense and a very average punch.

Khan barely beat a good not a great fighter in Maidana on a close decision that left the Khan doubters thinking again is the guy really any good . Let’s face it barely beating Maidana, isn’t a stepping stone to greatness. Maidana will soon fade from the spotlight like a pair of old washed jeans. Khans battered and bruised defenseless face was a huge target for a average speed ball like Maidana. Barely surviving a close Maidana decision many thought would be a draw Khan immediately started his own “I am the greatest promotional tour”.

But is anyone really buying this Khan smoke scene? Khan isn’t great he might be good but that is debatable. Putting Khan up there in the same breath as a Mayweather or a Pacquiao is preposterous even laughable. Even Roach stated he wanted to stop the fight after seeing Amir’s body accepting and absorbing brutal punches at an alarming rate. It seems Amir Khan is a good fighter who will seek out the easiest next fight against a patsy like Peterson or a Matthew Hatton or Kell Brook and pound his own back and sound his “Amir Trumpet” touting his next win as career defining all the while shouting I want Mayweather next.

Above average in ability, a great trainer and believing you are great doesn’t happen if you cannot punch hard and your defense is no better than a willing body absorbing every blow thrown by your opponent. Khan thinks he is great, but the boxing public and experts see a flawed- over-hyped- light hitting defenseless boxer who believes he is so much better than he really is. Only time and a real challenge will determine if Amir is a paper or Golden champion.
