Image: Haye not in any kind of hurry to fight Wladimir even with Chisora fight cancellationBy William Mackay: You would think that World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) and his trainer/manager Adam Booth would be happy with the news that IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s recent injury and cancellation of his fight with Dereck Chisora this weekend. However, Booth is saying that this doesn’t change a thing and that they’re not going to suddenly rush in and necessarily fight Wladimir now.

Frankly, I’m not surprised in the least, as this would go completely against the grain of what Haye and Booth have been doing in recent years. If anything, by not going after Wladimir for a fight, they’re staying consistent with what they’ve been doing in the past.

Booth told boxrec.com news, “We’ve got our own plan and schedule to work to. This won’t make the fight between Wladimir and David happen any more quickly. If anything, it might delay things if he’s [Wladimir] badly injured. David is certainly not stepping in to fill any kind of gap…I’ve invited Bernd [Boente, the manager for Wladimir] to contact me after the 12th of December, so maybe something will happen from their side then. Haye vs. Klitschko is the only big fight in the heavyweight division for the foreseeable future. Imagine if the brothers and David retired. What would the heavyweight division be left with then?”

As you can see, it’s not easy to sit down and put a fight together with Booth and Haye. He talks in circles, as if he’s not in any hurry to make the fight, and yet he says it’s the only fight that only good fight in the heavyweight division. Why then doesn’t he start negotiating with the Klitschko brothers now instead of waiting for December 12th? Why wait when Wladimir clearly isn’t going to be fighting this weekend? And why does the Klitschko management have to make the first move?
