Image: Glen Johnson is going to pound FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: It pains me to say this but WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) is going to take a royal beating in his next Super Six tournament semi-final bout against 41-year-old Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) next year. With this loss, Froch is going to be drummed out of the tournament and will have to go back to jolly old England, lick his wounds and figure out what he’s going to do with his career.

The thing of it is, Froch I think already should have two losses in the Super Six tournament because he got badly schooled by the talented Andre Dirrell in his first fight in the Super Six tourney last year. Froch was then out-hustled by Mikkel Kessler earlier this year in a 12 round decision loss in April. After that fight, Froch was talking retirement while at the same time refusing to acknowledge that he got spanked by Kessler.

Take it from me, Froch got spanked in that fight. But he got a change of luck when he went up against Arthur Abraham, who got mentally taken apart by Dirrell in the fight before that losing by an 11th round technical decision. Froch basically got Dirrell’s leftovers and made the most of it by beating a fighter that had already been trounced by Dirrell and knocked down a couple of times. The referee missed the second knockdown by Dirrell. Abraham looked like a beaten man when he went into the ring with Froch. The Dirrell loss must have really haunted him, because Froch was facing a shell of the fighter that went up against Dirrell.

Froch is going to enter the ring against Johnson thinking he’s back to where he was before. Johnson is immediately going to knock Froch off his high horse by chopping Froch down and leaving him on the floor in a pool of blood. It’s going to be ugly, and very sad. The end of the dream for Froch. I’m going to really hate to see him go. But you have to possess talent if you want to make it to the finals against Andre Ward, and I’m afraid Froch won’t measure up. I’m sure once he gets some perspective he’ll learn from his loss to Johnson and maybe become a better fighter.
