Froch doesn’t have the tools to beat Glen Johnson

Image: Froch doesn't have the tools to beat Glen JohnsonBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) is floating on clouds since beating over-trained Arthur Abraham in his last Super Six tournament fight in November. Before the fight, Froch was talking dooms day scenario where he would retire if he lost the fight, but now that he’s won the fight, it’s as if he’s suddenly invincible in the minds of his loyal boxing fans. I hate to drizzle all over Froch’s parade but he’s about to get his backside royally handed to him by 41-year-old Glen Johnson in their next Super Six tournament fight in April or May of next year.

You see you need more than just a slow jab and right hand to beat a veteran fighter like Johnson. You need major skills. Heck, the talented Chad Dawson, who I rate as a much better boxer than Froch, barely beat Johnson in their two fights. If Dawson could barely beat Johnson, how in the world is the limited, slow-moving, slow-punching Froch going to do it? Well, he’s not going to do it. Froch is going to get spanked and sent home to jolly old England minus his World Boxing Council super middleweight title belt.

It takes good foot and hand speed to beat a guy like Johnson, and the last time I checked, Froch doesn’t have those qualities. In a word, he’s slow. Froch doesn’t really belong in the same ring with a great fighter like Johnson. I see Froch getting beaten like a naughty child in this fight. It’s like taking a fighter with only two weapons in his arsenal and putting him in with a fighter that has numerous weapons to fire back with. Froch’s defense, which never has been very good, is going to overwhelmed by Johnson’s shots. I see this ending badly for Froch. I just hope Froch doesn’t get all cut up and end up bruised the way that Khan looked after his fight with Marcos Maidana. That was an ugly sight to see.
