Indeed, rather than make the usual comments that fighters generally about how they’re going to beat such and such fighter, Chisora seemed to take it to another level for some reason. Perhaps Chisora himself was angry and didn’t know how to keep it on the present situation but whatever the case, he came across as angry.

Wladimir reportedly waived his title belt in front of Chisora, saying “It’s a nice belt, hug? You’ve been dreaming about it, huh? You can take and play with [the belts]. I don’t care about it.” Chisora snapped back, saying “You want to be like Muhammad Ali, and all the rest, but you will never buy greatness, because you are not great. That’s why you’re stuck in Germany, that’s why the other countries don’t want to watch you. You can’t get a fight in [Las] Vegas. No one will pay to watch you in Vegas, because you stink up the joint.” Wladimir fired back, “I guess your opponent is your ex-girlfriend, who can’t punch back.”

Wladimir may have selected Chisora out of the pack of potential heavyweights to put himself in a good position with the British public for a future fight against WBA heavyweight champion David Haye, but Wladimir now seems motivated to really punish Chisora in the same way that he plans on punishing Haye when/if they fight. Chisora was supposed to be a harmless opponent that Wladimir would take on quietly and likely toy with for a few rounds before getting rid of him. However, Chisora has really gotten under Wladimir’s skin during the press conferences with the comments he’s made towards him and Wladimir seems to really want to get in the ring so that he can knock Chisora out and make an example of him.

Chisora thinks Wladimir isn’t an entertaining fighter because of Wladimir’s tendency to box using his jab, right hand and left hook rather than slug it out like he used to. Wladimir used to be more of a slugger earlier in his career but changed his style after suffering losses to Ross Puritty, Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster. Wladimir’s style of fighting is working because he hasn’t been beaten since 2004, and has faced nothing but top tier heavyweights since that time. For Chisora, this will be his first fight against an A level heavyweight. He’s got a long ways to go before he gets to where Wladimir is right now, and he may not ever make it.
