Image: Bradley-Alexander in Super Fight on 1/29By Jason Kim: In the fight that may actually have the two best light welterweights in the division going up against each other, WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) battles World Boxing Organization (WBO) light welterweight title holder Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) next month on January 29th at the Silverdome, in Pontiac, Michigan. One of these two fighters may end up being crowned the eventual top guy in the light welterweight division once the smoke clears from the series of fights that these guys will be in during the next year.

The thoughts are that the Bradley-Alexander winner will face the winner of the Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana winner this Saturday. And perhaps before or after the Khan fight, they’ll have to face the winner of the Lamont Peterson vs. Victor Ortiz bout, which also takes place this Saturday. The only fighter left after all these fights take place is Zab Judah, but he’s more of an after thought due to his recent questionable win over Argentinian knockout artist Lucas Mathysse.

The real guys that are taking place in this unlabeled tourney are Peterson, Ortiz, Bradley, Khan, Maidana and Alexander. Bradley is considered to be the best fighter in the division by many boxing fans based on his wins over Junior Witter, Peterson, Luis Carlos Abregu and Kendall Holt. However, Bradley is beatable and far from a sure thing against Alexander next month.

Alexander’s stock has dropped off dramatically recently after having difficulties in beating former WBA light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik in August. Alexander won the fight by a 12 round decision, but it looked more like a 12 round draw than a real win. Given that Khan, a fighter with a weak chin, was able to dominate Kotelnik so easily in beating him by a lopsided 12 round decision to capture the World Boxing Association title last year, it makes Alexander look less impressive as a fighter.
