Image: Arthur Abraham will be in good shape for Andre WardBy Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (31-2, 25 KO’s) revealed yesterday that he had over-trained badly for his last Super Six tournament fight against Carl Froch in November and because of that he didn’t have his usual strength. Abraham had been forced to endure two postponements of his fight with Froch and after waiting around and training daily for eight long months, Abraham finally fought Froch. But as you know, anytime you train hard for too long of a time, it leaves you badly depleted, which was the case for Abraham. He won’t make the same mistake again.

Abraham is training for his next Super Six fight against the unbeaten American WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward which will be taking place in April or May of next year. You can count on that fight going ahead on schedule without any delays or crying over the venue. Ward will be a good soldier and will agree to whatever venue that the two fighters’ camps decide on.

Ward has the talent to win anywhere in the world, even Germany and Nottingham, England. I just feel sorry for Abraham that it’s Ward he’s facing and not Froch in a rematch. I don’t want Ward to be the one to put Abraham out of his misery, and I think Abraham could beat Froch in a rematch as long as he’s not over-tained like last time.

If Abraham comes in good shape, I think he would handle Froch and stop him. Abraham didn’t look good going into his last fight with Froch. I knew something was wrong when I could see all of his ribs and noticed the dark circles under Abraham’s eyes. The guy looked like had worked himself to death during the eight months out of action instead of taking it easy and training as he normally had.
