Adamek is currently ranked #1 World Boxing Organization, #3 IBF, # WBC, #10 IBF, and is hoping to get a title shot against one of the Klitschko brothers in two more fights.

The possible opponent for Adamek is former WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter (34-4, 27 KO’s), who is coming off a terrible performance in a 10th round TKO loss to IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in September.

Peter’s manager Ivaylo Gotzev is interested in making the fight with Adamek, so it’s going to be interesting to see if they’ll actually fight Peter. This would be a huge step up for Adamek in terms of facing someone with big power, as Adamek’s previous fights at heavyweight have come against Jason Estrada, Chris Arreola, Michael Grant and Vinny Maddalone. Arreola injured his left hand early in the fight but was still able to stagger Adamek with punches on several occasions.

Adamek was able to stay on his feet and win by a 12 round majority decision. Next, Adamek defeated 38-year-old 2nd tier heavyweight Grant, and yet was staggered in that fight as well despite Grant throwing very few punches during the 12 rounds of action. Grant threw next to nothing but still had Adamek shook up at the end of the fight. In Adamek’s last fight, another 2nd tier heavyweight was selected for him in Maddalone. Adamek had no problems beating him, but Maddalone didn’t have the power to trouble him.

Peter can be out-boxed, as Wladimir, Eddie Chambers and Vitali Klitschko have shown in the past. However, he still punches with a lot of power and I could see him giving Adamek problems if he connects with one of his big shots. Given that Adamek appears to be going downwards in terms of picking out opponents, it’s doubtful that Peter will be selected for him. Peter may have been beaten by Wladimir recently, but he is still a very dangerous puncher and he’s a genuine 1st tier heavyweight. I see Adamek being put in with another 2nd tier heavyweight with zero power. They’re not going to want to risk Adamek getting destroyed before he takes on one of the Klitschko brothers and gets destroyed by one of them.

Adamek is a good heavyweight, but small, lacks power and gets shaken up when he gets hit with solid shots. Peter would be one punch away from knocking him cold the whole time he’s in there with Adamek. Since Adamek doesn’t have the size, the reach or the big power of the Klitschkos, I can’t see him being matched against Peter. I think Peter would knock him out based on the way Adamek has been hurt in the past by Arreola and Grant. Look for Adamek to be put in with another 2nd or 3rd tier heavyweight so he doesn’t get blasted out before his eventual fight with one of the Klitschkos. He’ll then be blasted out by one of them.
