Mosley says Pacquiao bout 90% sure to happen

By Dan Ambrose: “Sugar” Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KO’s) seems pretty certain that he’s going to be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent at some point in 2011 unless Floyd Mayweather Jr. speaks up and takes the fight before him. Mosley met with Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, and it looks as if he told Mosley that he’s going to be the guy that Pacquiao fights next, In Mosley’s twitter page, he had this to say about a potential fight with Pacquiao:

“Alright tweet buddies, I am going to get me some rest. Talk with Ya’ll later. But get ready for Sugar and Pac it’s going down!!!!! I just left his [Bob Arum] office yesterday 90% sure Its going down trust.”

Well, there it is. Mosley sounds as if he’s sure to get the fight. Of course, Mayweather can always step in before then and take the fight with Pacquiao, but Mayweather has got to speak up or else he’ll lose his chance. It could be that Mayweather doesn’t want to fight Pacquiao. Whatever the case, Mosley is looking good from the sounds of it.

A fight between Mosley and Pacquiao would likely be a less thrilling fight at this late stage in Mosley’s career. He’s 39-years-old, and has had back to back poor performances against Mayweather and Sergio Mora. That could have been a fluke thing if it were only fight, but Mosley looked just as bad in his recent September bout against Sergio Mora.

That tells you that Mosley’s once impressive skills may have deteriorated to the point where he’s nothing like he used to be in the ring. Heck, Mosley doesn’t even look as good as he was last year in the Antonio Margarito fight. Never the less, Mosley probably wouldn’t have stood a chance against Pacquiao even a year ago. Pacquiao is fighting too well right now, and Mosley is very hittable.

It’s great that Arum thinks highly of Mosley enough to give him the fight, but Arum is obviously looking at biggest money fight that can be made for his fighter Pacquiao. And with Mayweather not showing any interest, Mosley is the guy.
