If Chisora defeats Wladimir, he could be facing Haye and not the Klitschkos

By Dave Lahr: The Klitschko brothers are hoping that it will be one of them that ends up facing WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) next for a big money bout, but it could end up being unbeaten Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) if he pulls off an upset and beats IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) next month on December 11th at the SAP-Arena, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. I don’t know why but this scenario seems to be overlooked by Klitschko fans, who for some reason don’t even want to entertain the idea that Chisora has the power and the skills to beat Wladimir.

I think they’re wrong and are going to be sulking when Chisora knocks Wladimir out next month and then gets the big money fight against Haye that the Klitschko brothers have been so badly coveting for the past two years. I’m not the only one that believes this. Chisora’s promoter Frank Warren had this to say to Sky Sports News: “My guy [Dereck Chisora] is fighting one of the Klitschkos, so he [Haye] may face Dereck Chisora next.”

Warren is right. Chisora may be the one that ends up fighting Haye next in a fight that the British public would eat up just as hungrily as they did the recent Haye vs. Audley Harrison fight this month. But in this case, we’d see a real fight because Chisora has power, ability and always comes to fight. I think Chisora-Haye would bring in big numbers in the UK. But it would be funny to see Chisora beat Wladimir and in doing so beat the Klitschko brothers to a fight against Haye. I think Chisora is going to knock Wladimir out.

This will be the result of Wladimir overlooking Chisora, and not doing enough to change his bad habit of clinching all the time. You can’t fight British heavyweights with a clinching style of fighting, because they don’t acknowledge clinches and continue to throw punches while being held. Wladimir’s too set his ways to change his punch and grab technique at this stage in his career, so I expect him to be clinching Chisora for all he’s worth on December 11th. This will make it easy for Chisora to land his power shots and knock Wladimir out.
