Froch’s girlfiend says “Knock out the Midget King!” [Abraham]

By Scott Gifloid: Carl Froch’s beautiful girlfriend Rachel Cordingley is really pulling for Froch to beat knockout artist Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) in their Super Six bout at the Hartwall Arena, in Helsinki, Finland. Cordingley obviously doesn’t want to see Froch take a pounding and lose another Super Six tourney fight, even though he’s already a lock, win or lose, to make it into the semi-finals of the tournament.

In an article at Zoo magazine, Cordingley says “Carl’s always confident and he knows he can bring the World Boxing Association championship belt back to its rightful place. Abraham is only a midget. Carl’s going to dethrone the Midget King!”

Cordingley may not be aware of this, but Abraham is 5’10”, hardly a midget, and is only three inches shorter than Froch. That’s not a lot. Froch’s reach is only 2 ½” longer than Abraham. This may be news to Cordingley and Froch, because they seem to be under the impression that Abraham is short.

Froch plans on trying to use his reach and jab to control the fight from the outside the way that Andre Dirrell was able to do with Abraham in his win over him in March of this year. However, Froch has never shown the ability to stay on the outside and just jab his opponents. He tends to crowd his opponents and fight with his hands down by his sides. That won’t work against Abraham, and Froch probably doesn’t have the discipline needed to control the fight from the outside with his jab. As soon as he gets hit with a big shot, he’s going to forget about his game plan, get angry and try to retaliate. That’s where the fight will basically come down to whoever the harder puncher is and whoever has the better chin. My guess is Froch is going to get knocked out. But the good thing is it won’t matter. He’ll still be assured a place in the semi-finals of the tournament, so it won’t be over for him yet if Abraham knocks him out.

Froch says “I’ve got to stick and move – keep him out of his way and out-box him. But you know what I’m like; There will come a stage when I decide to have a good old scrap on the cobbles instead.” I think Froch will shuck his game plans early, probably in the 1st round when Abraham lands a big right hand on Froch’s unprotected head.
