Image: Devon Alexander wants fight with Pacquiao - NewsBy Jason Kim: Unbeaten WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) is hoping he can get lucky and win the lottery to get a big mega money fight against Manny Pacquiao in the near future, according to boxing news from the Saint Louis Post Dispatch. Alexander, 23, first much beat WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley in their fight on January 29th at the Chaifetz Arena, in Saint Louis, Missouri. However, even if Alexander beats Bradley, which is doubtful given how average Alexander looked in his recent fight against Andriy Kotelnik, Alexander will then likely have to face the winner of the Marcos Maidana vs. Amir Khan fight which takes place next month.

Alexander still won’t be a big enough name to make for an interesting bout against Pacquiao based on a win over Bradley, especially if it turns out to be a questionable one like Alexander’s recent win over Kotelnik. Alexander is fighting at home in the Bradley fight in Saint Louis, and if his bout against Kotelnik is any indication, Alexander may win another controversial decision that won’t likely endear him with boxing fans in the United States. As such, it could take a win over the Khan-Maidana winner before Alexander can get a big payday bout against Pacquiao.

Alexander says “Next fall, me and Pacquiao will be in the ring. I’m not saying I’m looking past Bradley, but next fall. It’s going to be something, a kid from North St. Louis fighting one of the best fighters in a mega fight, probably in Vegas. It’s going to be huge.”

It sounds like Alexander is dreaming here, because the way he looked against Kotelnik, he’s more likely to get blown out by Bradley and end up having to rebuild his career rather than skipping forward to a mega fight against Pacquiao. It is good that Alexander isn’t holding the misconception that Pacquiao would come to St. Louis to fight him, because that would really be a dream on Alexander’s part. My guess is Alexander will get badly beaten by Bradley, and all this talk by him about Pacquiao will be nothing but broken dreams. A fight between Pacquiao and Alexander wouldn’t be a very entertaining fight in my view, because Alexander doesn’t have the power or the hand speed to compete with Pacquiao and would get ripped to pieces.
