Image: Chisora says he's going to ruin Haye's plans of fighting the Klitschkos by beating them firstBy William Mackay: Unbeaten Commonwealth and British heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) was totally disgusted in watching last Saturday’s title fight between WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and challenger Audley Harrison. Chisora, a nonsense guy that believes in hard work and going all out in his fights, called the Haye-Harrison fight an “Embarrassment” to boxing. Speaking with Sky Sports News, Chisora said “It was a big embarassment for boxing to be honest for both parties. I don’t know what kind of game he was playing, Audley, I think he should hang up his gloves. Who is going to fight him? Who is going to want to fight him: The public arean’t gonna buy a fight to go and watch him anymore.”

It’s academic at this point that Harrison is pretty much done as far as being a big marquee named fighter. The Haye fight was Harrison’s do or die bout, and he clearly ruined his chance to redeem himself by throwing only one pitiful punching during the three rounds of action.

Chisora isn’t impressed with Haye either, saying “Haye is pricing himself, saying he is retiring next year. So basically he wants everybody to run after him but if the guy wants to retire let him retire – teh sport is not going to miss him. It will be a good riddance. If he doesn’t retire net year, Ill give him a better fight than any fight he’s had his whole entire career.”

I agree with Chisora about Haye. I see his constant threats of retiring next year as a ploy to get one of the Klitschko brothers to not only chase after him – and thus give Haye more fame because his name is mentioned by the Klitschkos a lot – but also to get a better financial deal out of them. If you think that you’ve got something or someone that is about to disappear, people tend to pay more for it because people see it as something that won’t be available ever again. This is what I think Haye is doing with the Klitschkos. I believe the retirement talk is Haye’s way of getting a better deal. If the Klitschkos fall for it, Haye will have accomplished his goal.

Haye has become popular the easy way by doing what is refereed to as “Name dropping” by calling out the Klitschko brothers over and over again in the media. Name dropping is a strategy that people use to put themselves in a higher social hierarchy and raise ones status the easy way. By mentioning people more successful than themselves and putting themselves on the same level, it has the effect of fooling people into believing that person is on the same level in terms of status and talent. It’s obviously worked well for Haye, because he went from facing guys like Jean Marc Mormeck and Enzo Maccarinelli into a title fight against WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev after fighting only one heavyweight – journeyman Monte Barrett – before. Haye didn’t have to fight a top contender like Denis Boytsov, Alexander Povetkin or Odlanier Solis to get a shot at Valuev, who was considered a paper champion and the weakest by far of the three heavyweight title holders at the time Haye fought him. I agree that boxing will be better once Haye is gone.

Chisora will be facing Wladimir Klitschko on December 11th at the SAP-Arena, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Chisora says “The sport we’re in is a gladiator sport. You don’t have to wait for the later rounds or the first round, I’m just gonna go for it from round one to round 12. I’m going into the Klitschko fight a big underdog, but I promise you now that I’ll throw more than one punch and put up more of a fight than he [speaking about Harrison] did. I’ve got a big challenge ahead of me by going out to Germany, but I’m going out there to give it my best shot because winning the title means more to me than the money. I’m confident that I can pull off a massive shock and bring the title back to Britain, and I’m ruining Haye’s dreams of beating the Klitschkos because I’m going to do it first.”
