Will Haye still fight Chisora even if Wladimir destroys him?

By William Mackay: One of the reasons that IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) decided to fight the green Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) is to remove one more potential opponent that WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) could look to fight after he gets past Britain’s Audley Harrison (27-4, 20 KO’s) next month in their fight on November 13th. By fighting Chisora, Wladimir would make Haye look silly if he decides to get sloppy seconds and fight someone that Wladimir destroyed. I can see how it would possibly take Chisora out of circulation for Haye. However, I don’t think it will work. Haye is already fighting Harrison, who has been exposed by a number of 2nd tier heavyweights. Harrison has been beaten by B level heavyweights during his career, yet Haye is still fighting him.

Haye has got plenty of easy opponents for him to milk his WBA title against in the heavyweight division. Just look at his top five contenders: Ruslan Chagaev, Nikolay Valuev, Denis Boytsov, Alexander Ustinov and Odlanier Solis. I don’t see Haye going near Boytsov or Solis, because those guys can fight a little. However, Haye can waste the next year fighting Chagaev, Valuev or Ustinov and never have to risk his neck facing one of the Klitschko brothers. It doesn’t matter if Wladimir beating all the guys that he thinks Haye would likely go after to milk his title. There’s plenty of easy fodder out here for Haye to milk his title until his retirement next year when he turns 31. You can’t stop Haye if he’s got his mind set out do some milking.

I honestly don’t think Haye would ever bother with a fighter like Chisora, though, because he can fight a little, has good power and is about the same size as Haye. If Chisora was able to handle Haye’s pot shots, Haye could find himself in another bout similar to the one where he lost to Carl Thompson.
