Image: Froch thinks he may have to knock Abraham out to get the winBy Scott Gilfoid: Former World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) will be fighting for the vacant WBC title on November 27th against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) at the Hartwell Arena, in Helsinki, Finland. This will be a stage 3 Super Six tourney bout between Froch and Abraham. Froch wants to win back the WBC title he lost in his 12 round decision defeat to Mikkel Kessler last April in Denmark. Froch thinks he won that, and is still bitter about the loss. He’s been uneasy about the judging going into his fight with Abraham, and refused to fight him in Germany.

After a massive amount of wrangling around, the fight is now in Finland after a previous location in Monaco was temporarily selected. In an article at thisisnottingham.co.uk, Froch said “It’s great to get the chance to be world champion for a second time. I wasn’t happy with what went on but at least it’s sorted out now. But it looks as though there will be three American judges in Finland. I think I’m going to have to knock out Abraham to get the belt back that was taken away from me in Denmark.”

As far as I can tell, Americans like Froch as a fighter and I can’t see any reason why Froch would be skeptical about his ability win a decision with three American judges working the fight. If he’s that concerned, he needs to say something to Showtime and maybe they’ll accommodate Froch by giving him three judges from Nottingham, England or at the minimum, two European judges like it was for his controversial 12 round decision over Andre Dirrell. Froch really doesn’t need to worry his head about judging.

There’s an excellent chance Abraham is going to knock him out, so he shouldn’t worry for a second and waste time that he should be spending on learning how to protect his head from taking so many blows. That should be Froch’s main concern, not the judges. Abraham knocks everyone out, and he rarely beats his opponents by decision. Having a fighter like Froch in the ring with him, with his poor defense, is like throwing a gold fish to a piranha.

Abraham is going to rip Froch apart unless Froch has made some drastic changes to his defense. I seriously doubt Froch will be anything more than what he always is – a fighter with slow hand speed, poor defense and utterly predictable. Froch is like the British version of Kelly Pavlik.
