Froch looking past Abraham towards a rematch with Pascal

Image: Froch looking past Abraham towards a rematch with PascalBy Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) seems to have the impression that his next Super Six tournament fight against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) is in the bag, as Froch is already looking for a dream rematch with Jean Pascal in the future after the Super Six tournament is over. It’s sad that Froch is talking as if he’s already won the Abraham fight, which will take place on November 27th at the Hartwall Arena, in Helsinki, Finland. It’s sad because Froch stands a good chance of getting knocked cold by Abraham, and then losing yet again when he faces his next opponent in the Super Six.

Froch had this to say in an article at thisisnottingham.co.uk: “If you put myself and Arthur Abraham into a computer, 10 times out of 10 that computer says Carl Froch is the winner. He [Froch talking about himself] got more range, he’s got more power, he’s been a super middleweight for the last ten years, he’s fought better fighters, he’s got a granite chin.”

Oh man, Froch sounds delusional. I don’t know what kind of computer Froch would be putting him and Abraham in, but it must be some kind of broken down one from years ago, because if I put the two of them in a computer, I see Froch getting knocked out every time. And I don’t see Froch as having a granite chin. The guys was knocked down by Jermain Taylor, staggered by Andre Dirrell twice and staggered in his last fight with Mikkel Kessler. I don’t know about you, but that’s not my definition of fighter with a granite chin. Those types of fighters aren’t supposed to be staggered, and they sure as heck aren’t supposed to be getting knocked down like Froch was against Taylor.

Froch says “Arthur Abraham can’t beat me. There’s never an easy night’s work in boxing, but it should be a relatively comfortable night for me if I stick to my game plan.” Froch is never in an easy fight. I don’t know what he’s talking about. He gets nailed all the time now that he’s finally facing quality fighters on a consistent basis in the Super Six tournament. This isn’t going to be easy unless he considers getting pounded as easy. Froch is like a walking punching bag with arms. He doesn’t cover up and has a nasty habit of fighting with his long arms handing below his waist.

“I’ve got big respect for Jean Pascal as he has for me. We talk now and again on the phone. I’m behind Jean and I’m wishing him all the best against [Bernard] Hopkins. It’s a fight that he probably wants more than me because the only blemish on his record is that of The Cobra.” I hope Pascal doesn’t mind fighting Froch after he gets beaten two more times in the Super Six tournament, but something tells me a couple more losses for Froch will take the taste of revenge out of Pascal’s mouth. He likely won’t be interested in facing Froch after gets whipped a couple of more times.

And by the same token, Froch might not see the appeal of fighting Pascal if he losses to Hopkins. Heck, even if Pascal beats the 45-year-old Hopkins, Pascal has to fight a rematch with Chad Dawson, and there’s an excellent chance that a motivated Dawson will beat Pascal this time. Will Froch want to fight Pascal if he’s no longer the WBC light heavyweight champion after getting knocked out by Dawson? Pascal was in trouble in the 11th round against Dawson in their last fight when Pascal’s head suddenly smashed into Dawson’s face just when Pascal was on the verge of being knocked out. I can see Pascal losing to Dawson in a rematch, and that would take a lot of the air out of a rematch with Froch you would think.
