Image: Wladimir Klitschko makes fun of Haye’s fight with Harrison, calling it “The London Championship”By William Mackay: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 38 KO’s) is finding humor in the next scheduled fight for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) against 38-year-old Audley Harrison (27-4, 20 KO’s), which is scheduled to take place on November 13th, at the M.E.N. Arena, Manchester, Lancashire. Klitschko, 34, was hoping that Haye would step up the level of competition after facing 38-year-old Monte Barrett, 36-year-old Nikolay Valuev and 38-year-old John Ruiz in Haye’s last three fights.

But Haye is going to be taking on another older fighter in his next bout instead of fighting Klitschko or his brother World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s). In an article at Sky Sports News, Wladimir says “I’ve been talking about David Haye a lot, but actually he started talking about the Klitschko brothers a lot. The fight that he has now [against 38-year-old Audley Harrison] is for the London Championship; It’s not the World Championship.”

How true. Technically, it’s for Haye’s WBA world title, but it’s hard to see it as a world title fight given that Harrison is ranked low in the top 15, and hasn’t really beaten anyone recently other than British journeyman Michael Sprott to get the title shot against Haye. It just looks like Haye is milking his heavyweight title to try and get as much money out of it while he can before he retires or is knocked out by someone.

Haye had previously said that he was going to be the new breed of heavyweight, and that he would bring excitement to the heavyweight division by taking on and beating the best heavyweights. Well, since moving up to the heavyweight division in 2008, Haye done a remarkable job of cleaning up on the older heavyweights in the division but has steered clear of the Klitschko brothers and the top heavyweight contenders like Odlanier Solis, Denis Boytsov, Samuel Peter and Alexander Povetkin. Wladimir is facing Peter tonight in a title fight in Frankfurt, Germany.

The winner of that fight will be looking for Haye next. Peter already said that he wants Haye next, and he’s going to have his Top Rank promotional team working on it if he gets by Wladimir. And, of course, Wladimir wants to fight Haye like no tomorrow. However, the chances of that fight happening might be slim because Haye has seemed reluctant to fight Wladimir or his brother.
