By Sean McDaniel: The management team for IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) were reportedly greatly impressed with the performance by Britain’s Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) in his 9th round TKO win over Sam Sexton in the Magnificent Seven card on September 18th. There was something in the 6’1” Chisora’s performance that made Klitschko and his team take interest and want him for the December 11th fight.

Chisora’s promoter Frank Warren is considering an offer made to Chisora for the Klitschko fight. It would seem likely that Warren will agree to match Chisora up against Klitschko. It’s a long shot for Chisora to win the fight, but it will be his biggest payday of his career and it could be the last time he gets a chance at the world title.

In normal cases, fighters have to work their way up the heavyweight latter to get a shot at the title. But Chisora, with his biggest wins coming against Sexton and an old Danny Williams, would be getting a shot without having to beat one of the top contenders.

Chisora has a habit of swarming his opponents and overwhelming them with punches. It’s highly unlikely that this fighting approach will work against Wladimir. It could actually work against Chisora if he rushes the tall 6’6” Ukrainian and tries to take him out with a flurry of shots.

Chisora is going to get hit a lot if he fights like that and his lack of height and average punching ability will put him at a huge disadvantage against Klitschko. Chisora hasn’t even proven that he can beat the top European competition. He’s skipping over those fighters and going straight to the top, if this fight does happen.

In terms of talent, Chisora is comparable to journeyman Monte Barrett, only Barrett punches harder, is taller and doesn’t throw as many punches as Chisora. This is probably going to be a huge mismatch, but at least Chisora can get some badly needed experience and attention by facing Klitschko.
