Schaefer wants to put Khan in with Mayweather in September, but what happens if Khan loses to Maidana?

By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is getting a little ahead of himself in his desire to put together a fight between Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Schaefer is eying September of 2011 for a fight between Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr, if Floyd doesn’t fight Manny Pacquiao next year. Presumably, Schaefer’s grand vision could be totally ripped apart at the seams if Khan is destroyed by Marcos Maidana on December 11th.

In an article at the Daily Mail, Schaefer says “If we can’t make Mayweather-Pacquiao in the spring, it may be too late. So this gives us time to build Amir into a pay-per-view star in the U.S.” For Khan to be a PPV star in the U.S, doesn’t he have to beat Maidana? Isn’t that how it goes? What happens when Maidana destroys Khan in two or three rounds? Will Schaefer make Maidana a PPV star? This is hilarious.

If I had a fighter with a glass jaw like Khan, the last thing I would do is start babbling about how he’s going to be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year, when he’s facing a fighter with one punch knockout power like Maidana. I’d be praying that my fighter doesn’t get knocked out again, that’s I would be doing. I wouldn’t be lost in my vision of how he’s going to be a big PPV start, because that would mean that Khan would have to beat both Maidana and the winner of the Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley fight, and I don’t see Khan ever beating the winner of that fight. I see him losing and quite badly. But that fight probably won’t even be necessary if Khan gets destroyed like I think he will by Maidana.

Khan had this to say about Mayweather at the Times: “I would love to fight Mayweather and I believe I can end his unbeaten record.” Oh brother, Khan doesn’t stand a chance against Mayweather. This dude is really getting ahead of himself. He isn’t going to get anywhere near Mayweather after gets stretched by Maidana. Unless Schaefer plans on matching Khan up with Mayweather anyway, no matter if he loses to Maidana, I don’t see that fight happening in this lifetime.
