Mosley would be a good option for Pacquiao if Mayweather is unavailable next year

That would be the ideal situation for Pacquiao and Arum, because that fight would make much more than any other fights that Arum could set up for Pacquiao.

However, with Mayweather now having to deal with serious legal problems due to charges made against him for allegedly beating up his ex-girlfriend, a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather may not happen in 2011. Arum is already interested in putting Pacquiao back in with Miguel Cotto in a rematch.

That fight will likely happen in early 2011. However, after Pacquiao finishes destroying Cotto for a second time, Pacquiao is going to need some new blood. He can’t turn around and fight Joshua Clottey or Antonio Margarito again, because it would look sick with Pacquiao fighting needless rematches against guys he already destroyed.

That would just seem like a money grab rather than giving fans fights entertaining fights. With Mayweather possibly out of the picture, and Arum’s stable of fighters already having lost to Pacquiao, it might be a good idea for Pacquiao to fight Shane Mosley at some point in 2011.

This would have to be something that Pacquiao pushes for, because I don’t think that Arum would bother to make this fight because Mosley fights for Golden Boy Promotions, a rival promotional company. But Mosley really would be the best option for Pacquiao to fight if Mayweather isn’t available.

It would look really bad if Pacquiao, after destroying Cotto for a second time for no real reason, is put in with rematches against fellow Top Rank fighters Clottey or Margarito again. That would seem like a sick game of musical chairs.

This is why Pacquiao needs to be the one to stand up and ask for Mosley, because I can’t see it happening unless he does. Without Pacquiao speaking up, my guess is he’ll end up fighting Margarito or Clottey or possibly another fighter in Arum’s stable rather than Mosley.
